FluMist dosing

The dosage for FluMist is the same, whether you're in a doctor’s office or at home.

Dosage For FluMist
  • Each FluMist nasal sprayer contains 1 dose (1 dose = 2 sprays. 1 spray for each nostril)
  • People ages 9-49 need 1 dose of FluMist each year
  • FluMist is given as 1 dose per year prior to the onset of the influenza season. Children 2-8 may need 2 doses of a flu vaccine if they have never received a prior influenza vaccine. These children should receive their first influenza dose in a traditional healthcare setting

Protection from a flu vaccine declines over time and the circulating flu viruses constantly change.

Because influenza viruses are constantly changing, flu vaccines are updated from one season to the next to help protect against the viruses that research suggests will be common during the upcoming flu season.

Yearly vaccination is needed for the best protection.
